LEAGUE NEWS

GAMES THUR., 7/29 HAVE BEEN CALLED OFF DUE TO RAIN AND LIGHTNING.

The registration form for the Chesterfield Coed Tournament is available below. The tournament is Saturday, August 28 at Ironbridge Park. The deadline to submit your registration form is Thursday, August 19, but please submit it ASAP.

MEN'S LEAGUE-SILVER DIVISION (THURSDAY NIGHTS) STILL HAS OPENINGS FOR NEW PLAYERS.  Contact League Coordinator Dave Simon:  916-8249.

Henrico Co-Ed Tournament - Saturday, July 17th.  CSSA Green placed 2nd.  CSSA Teal were 1st place winners.  CSSA Orange had obstacles to overcome besides playing ball.  There was great food.  Thank you Henrico Senior Softball.  Great competition from both Henrico and Hanover Senior Softball.  Good Sportsmanship pretty much all the way around.   LAURIE TERRY, ASSISTANT CO-ED COORDINATOR was named tournament MVP.  Great playing Laurie.   Check "Leagues," then select tournaments.  Pictures will be available soon. The rosters are available here.

The Chesterfield Co-Ed Senior Softball Tournament will be held on Saturday, August 28th.  Co-Ed established teams will be playing together.  We will also be accepting registrations from the Men's League to fill in where not all players from established teams are playing.  You will be able to find the Registration Form under "LINKS" on the lower left side of this screen soon.  Registration deadline is Thursday, August 19th.  Entry fee is $20 per player and includes catered lunch for player and 1 guest.  $5 each additional guest.

For information on the results of the Hanover Tournament, go to Leagues, there is a section for Tournaments.  Click on Hanover.  Draftedd teams and pictures are listed there.

In the Men's League, the Headliners of the Silver Division have three or four players on the Disabled List and are in need of reinforcements in the form of new players, players who want to switch from the Gold Division to Silver, or from members of Silver teams who happen to have a bye. Contact Association Treasurer Lacy Lusk about signing up for the league or switching divisions or if you're already on another team in Silver, make your availability to play on bye nights known to Headliners Manager Walter Bailey.

If sportsmanship is not a good enough reason for limiting yourself to ASA-allowable bats, potential injuries or even criminal prosecution should be.  If in doubt about whether your bat is legal or possibly lethal, ask the umpire and Allen

COUNTY BUDGET

The latest news is that we will continue to be able to use the fields throughout the year, but will likely have to pay approximately $60 additional to the county for dragging the fields twice a week.  If someone knows someone who can and will do that for us for a lesser amount, please contact Allen Harlow as this is a considerable extra expense that was not taken into account in setting Association dues for 2010.

If the county cancels games due to rain, they will post a message on the sports hotline at 4:00.  748-1001, press 1.  Cancellations after 4:00 p.m. are not put on the hotline.

Men's League - Friday, June 04, 2010

We have four teams in the Gold Division and five in Silver. If you feel you have been improperly classified as to the Division in which your assigned team is playing, please contact League Coordinator, Dave Simon (916-8249) and it should be possible to move new players from a Gold team to a Silver Division team as the Silver rosters are shorter than Gold. Additionally, there are 11 fielding positions in Silver, allowing more defensive opportunities.

It's come to the Board's attention that some people may be unaware that bats on ASA's Prohibited List may not be used in CSSA league or tournament play. CSSA President Allen Harlow has a printed list of banned bats with photos, so if you have any questions about the legality of yours, please ask him. From time to time, he will also be spot-checking those bats being used during games, so save yourself some embarrassment--if you have any questions about your bat, ask Allen before using it. Though we aren't checking for steroids, Association rules do penalize users of illegal equipment. Allen will also be available on Monday nights should Co-ed League members have any questions about bats and there, too, he may visit the dugouts from time to time to ensure that no banned (because they are dangerous) bats are being used. We operate on the premise that no one playing senior ball is so uncertain of his (or her) athletic prowess or so consumed by gaining an unfair advantage that he (or she) would knowingly use banned (or altered) equipment.
