Co-Ed League
In Chesterfield, Senior Co-Ed is played much like regular softball. The major differences are listed below:
1. There are two home plates. The original placement of home plate is where the catcher and batter stand. The second home plate is between the original home plate and the dugout. This placement avoids contact between players and decreases the chance of injury.
2. Currently, the ratio of men to women in the Co-Ed league is: 7 men to 3 women. All players bat. All players must play at least two innings of the first four innings in the field. (Depending on the number of teams this year, we may increase the ration of women to men playing in the field.)
3. All players must run from home plate to first base upon a successful at bat. After reaching first base, a substitute runner can come in.
4. A limit of five runs per inning, per team so that no one team can dominate a game. In addition, a team bats twice without taking the defensive fielding position. This helps to speed up the game and get as many innings as possible played during the time limit.
5. There is an extreme difference in playing abilities and ages in all our players. We have men and women who still play competitive tournament softball. We also have both men and women who come out for more of a social situation than competition. We have men and women who have just become eligible by becoming 50+ and 40+; and we also have men and women who are 70+.
NEW PLAYERS:
1. The fee for all first year players is $50. If new men players wish to play in the Men’s League also, they will be required to pay the full fee for the second league.
2. CSSA has 2-3 practices in March, before the season starts. All new players are invited to attend so that they can practice and meet established players in our league. This also gives the coaches an opportunity to evaluate new players. The evening of the last practice, all coaches meet with the Co-Ed Coordinator and draft new players for their teams. All new players will be drafted onto a team.
3. Each team is allowed “X” number of recruits per year. The number of recruits for Co-Ed has not been established for this year, but will be voted on during the February meeting.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
1. The regular season generally begins after Easter, but during April. The CSSA Co-Ed League has fields available for regular play from April through the middle of October.
2. We do not make up rained out games.
3. We do not play on Mondays for: Memorial Day, the week of the 4th of July, Labor Day, the week of the Chesterfield County Fair.
4. We will either play one continuous season from April through October or we will have a summer season and a fall ball season. This will not be decided until the meeting of February 23rd.
5. We do have specific rules for the CSSA; however, we are associated with ASA, and if there is no specific rule, we revert back to ASA rules.
